Xiaomi becomes the biggest smartphone brand globally, with total sales of 800 million phones since they started. Xiaomi launched its first device in 2011 and 10 years later achieved this milestone.
A report from Counterpoint shows Xiaomi made the highest sales in a month ever, in June this year. According to the report, Xiaomi showed a 26% rise in sales in June, which made it the fastest-growing brand for the month. Xiaomi still leads with the highest global market share of 17.1%. Samsung is in close second with a 15.7% market share, followed by Apple at 14.3%.
Reports show that Xiaomi has been able to capitalize on the “legacy markets” of Huawei and Honor like China, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The brand was further helped by Samsung’s decline because of supply constraints in Vietnam. However, the research does predict that if situations in Vietnam improve soon Samsung might be able to come back to the top.
The report also points out that these sales have been achieved because of a substantial increase in sales of the Redmi 9, Redmi Note 9, and Redmi K series in China. Xiaomi has really been able to capture the budget and mid-range market with sub-brands like Redmi & Poco. The Mi 11 Ultra, its first attempt at the flagship market also turned out to be a huge success.
