Why Don’t Macs Have Face ID? Apple Responds

Apple Mac's

Apple launched new MacBook Pros in the Apple Unleashed Event. While they have a lot of upgrades over their predecessor, they still don’t have the most awaited features on the Mac, Face ID, and a Touch Screen display.

The newly launched MacBook Pros come with two new Processors, M1 Pro and M1 Max. These are some of the most powerful processors based on ARM architecture. But, they have one distinctive feature that tells them apart from all other laptops in the market. No, it is not the Apple logo; it is a Notch.

Now that the MacBook Pros come with a notch, users expected them to have Face ID; spoiler alert, they don’t.

This is what Apple’s Vice-President of iPad and Mac, Tom Boger, had to say when asked about the omission of Face ID in an interview with the Wall Street Journal (via Mac Rumours),

And Face ID? When I stare at the laptop’s giant notch, I wonder why I can’t unlock the machine with my face.

Mr. Boger said Touch ID is more convenient on a laptop since your hands are already on the keyboard.

Another topic of concern is the lack of a touch-screen with the Macs. While it isn’t a feature that would come in handy unless you can detach the screen and use it independently, it is a bonus to have one.

Apple iPad Specs

John Ternus, Apple’s senior Vice-President of Hardware Engineering, responds to this query by saying,

“We make the world’s best touch computer on an iPad. It’s totally optimized for that. And the Mac is totally optimized for indirect input. We haven’t really felt a reason to change that.”

And it makes sense. Why would Apple want to kill their iPad? They market it as a replacement for your Personal Computer.
