Twitter is finally paying attention to its DM search function. After adding a search feature to DMs on iOS and the web nearly two years ago, the company is finally bringing the update to Android.
The function would significantly increase the utility of that bar by surfacing older conversations and even actual words you typed in those conversations sometime “later this year.” At the moment, you can just look for the names of people you’ve talked with.
These may seem to be minor changes, but the inability to efficiently scan direct messages has long been a source of frustration for anyone who makes extensive use of the feature. Trying to locate a post that was months or years old was virtually impossible unless you were able to browse through old chats indefinitely. However, with the latest search bar, searching Twitter DMs should be more like searching any other messaging app.
