Telegram’s New Update Brings Message Reactions, Spoiler Alerts, And More

The much awaited message reactions come in as animated and interactive emojis.

Telegram has been steadily growing, and during the Facebook-Server Outage, oh, Meta Server Outage, Telegram received a surge of users. According to Statista, it has 550 million active users monthly. Since then, Telegram has been receiving more attention than ever, and its latest update brings in Message Reactions, a much-awaited feature. Other features in the update are Spoiler Formatting, Message Translations, More Interactive Emojis (one of the best features IMO) and more. Let us have a look at what these new features have to offer.

Message Reactions

While Telegram is one of the most feature-rich IM Services (Instant Messaging), it could not react to messages. With this update, this feature is finally available as reaction emojis and as animated and interactive emojis.

Telegram Message Reactions

Reactions for private chats are enabled by default, and to react to a message, double-tap a message to send a quick 👍(Thumbs Up) reaction. For more reactions like 😁🎉😱🔥👎, tap once on the message (or press and hold, if on iOS). Each reaction appears with its own unique animation. This won’t be enabled by default for group chat, and the admins will have the authority to turn messages reactions on/off.

Spoilers

Spoiler formatting is yet another useful feature you might have used earlier on platforms like Discord, Reddit, etc. It will hide the selected part of the text in the chat and the notifications. How to make use of this feature? Well, look at the demo GIF below; however, it has an actual spoiler.

Translation

As the feature says, Translation. Users can now translate any message into another language on the app itself. No need to use third-party services to translate messages.

Telegram Translation

To use this feature, Enable Translation in Settings > Language adds a dedicated Translate button to the context menu when selecting a message.

Interactive Emojis

While interactive emojis are already present on the IM service, it was limited to a few emojis. Seven more emojis have been added to this list of interactive emojis. This is only present in private chats.

Other features added with this update are Themed QR codes and a New Menu For macOS. All in all, this seems like a great update at the end of the year. We are excited to see what updates Telegram has in store for 2022.
