Telegram gets a major security boost on Windows 10

A new update on Windows has been received by the secure messaging app Telegram that helps users better protect their privacy by giving them more control over their data.

The update comes at a time when users are turning away from WhatsApp, owned by Facebook, and moving to more messaging apps such as Telegram and Signal that focus on privacy. In fact, Telegram even released a blog post back in January detailing how users could instead move their chat history to its service from WhatsApp, Line, and KakaoTalk.

Telegram has introduced a new feature in the latest update to its desktop app that allows users to delete groups they have created, as well as all their call history, without leaving a trace. For both parties, mobile users also have the ability to delete a secret group.

Since Telegram does not store deleted chats, call history, or group users on its servers, this data disappears completely once both mobile and desktop users have clicked on the delete button in the app.

Enhanced voice communication

In addition to giving its users more control over their details, after rolling out support for group calls last year, Telegram has also introduced a new feature to enhance the voice chat experience of the service.

The company also implemented a new feature to ensure that every user is heard in a voice chat, enabling users to change the volume on a per-user basis. Now, when Telegram users are in an active voice chat, they can click on the top menu and modify individual participants’ microphone levels, while administrators can alter everyone’s volume in a voice chat.

The potential for users to report fake groups or networks impersonating famous individuals or organizations has now been introduced via Telegram. You can do this by opening the profile of a channel or community and clicking on the report button. A channel for spam, abuse, adult or illegal material, and for being a fake account can be identified here.

The new Telegram desktop update is now being rolled out through the Microsoft Store for Windows 10, and users can download it directly from the store’s service page.
