Sony is back at it with another phone that is trying to be the camera king. Sony has launched their latest Sony Xperia Pro-I for a whopping $1800, and this phone is for a particular target audience. Let’s see what this device is all about!
The Sony Xperia Pro-I is not cheap by any means possible. It is one of the most expensive mainstream phones out there, and it prioritizes cameras over anything. It is built specifically for camera enthusiasts who want a camera first and a phone second.
The “I” in the name stands for imaging – and is a symbol for Sony’s Alpha mirrorless cameras, which are their best selling as well as the most professional cameras out there.
The handset houses a triple camera setup on the rear, and the primary 1-inch sensor delivers “outstanding low light performance, high dynamic range, and beautiful bokeh.” While this sensor is 20MP in total, the phone only uses a part of it, making resultant images a 12MP shot. A 1-inch sensor is very rare in smartphones and is inspired by Sony’s professional line of cinema cameras that also feature the same sensor.
The other two cameras on the rear are also 12MP each, and the front camera is 8MP. Sony also uses glass for all three cameras from Zeiss Optics, just like other brands like Vivo. While these numbers do not seem like much, Sony says they can still deliver better photos than their rivals with a smaller megapixel sensor. Sony claims that each pixel captures more details, more dynamic range, and greater depth of field.
On the video side of things, Sony claims this is the first camera in the world that can capture videos in 4K at 120 frames per second. The Xperia Pro-I also keeps all 120 frames so that users get complete control over the footage in post-production.

The handset is more expensive than the maxed out 1TB iPhone 13 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, and most other flagships. The other phone specifications do help to justify this price tag.
The Xperia Pro-I flaunts a 6.5-inch 21:9 3840×1644 OLED panel with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. It packs the Snapdragon 888 5G chipset from Qualcomm. The Pro-I features a 4500mAh battery that supports charging speeds of up to 30W. It comes with Sony’s typical, near-stock Android software experience.
There’s also 12GB RAM, 512GB of internal storage, and a 3.5mm audio jack!
