Sony has secretly changed the YouTube banner on its official Xperia page to announce that it will be launching a new product in the coming weeks. The company is launching a new Xperia product on April 14th at 4:30 PM Japan time or 3:30 AM Eastern time in the US, according to the banner, as noticed by Droid Life. Since Sony used Xperia’s YouTube banner for the announcement, the event will most likely be streamed on the video website.
The company didn’t say what kind of device it’ll show off, but rumors about a phone called the Xperia 1 III have been circulating. According to the reports, the phone will have specifications that rival the flagship devices of other firms. It will reportedly feature a 6.5-inch 4K OLED display with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate, as well as a Sony CyberShot-made periscope lens.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, the company’s new premium processor for smartphones, is said to power the unit, which can have up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. A 5,000mAh battery, an SD slot, and a headphone jack are all possible features. When translated from Chinese Yuan, the model is expected to cost about US$1,370, which isn’t surprising considering the Xperia 1 II’s launch price of $1,200.
On April 14th, we’ll know for sure, and we’ll let you know if Sony does indeed unveil a new phone.
