Scoop! Samsung Could Be Working on a Rollable Display

Samsung has patented a Rollable Display Concept, Here's what we know.

Samsung Could Be Working on a Rollable Display – Samsung has just launched its Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Flip 3 at the August 2021 Galaxy Unpacked Event, where we saw Samsung’s foldable smartphones in full glory. Now, it seems like Samsung might be working on a rollable display phone concept.

Today, we have managed to unearth a concept patent by Samsung that showcases a rollable panel with an interesting mechanism. Let’s take a look at the renders for a better understanding.

From the document, we can see that the panel itself is flexible, and the panel will rest in a wave-like structure until it completely rolls out to form a flat panel structure.

We can also observe a toggle mechanism that locks the panel as the buttons in 1st image are opposing each other when locked and the buttons in 2nd image are close to each other when unlocked. The lock plays a key role in a device like this to stop accidental exposer which could lead to a crack in a display, if not taken care of.

Since this is a patent filing, we are unsure if this product would ever make it to production but given the history of Samsung to come up with innovative gadgets like Z flip and Z Fold. However, it won’t be a surprise if Samsung does manage to launch a rollable display phone.

That is pretty much all we have for you regarding Samsung’s rollable display. We will, of course, keep you posted in case we come across any significant developments in terms of this interesting concept.
