Samsung revealed the ISOCELL sensor (HM3) earlier this year, a 1/1.33” sensor with 108MP resolution that we saw in action on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The company also teased a video a few days ago, that suggests the sensor will soon be available in upcoming Samsung flagship phones as well as flagship phones from other manufacturers.

The HM3 sensor features 9-to-1 pixel binning with a pixel size of 2.4m. Smart-ISO Pro upscale HDR images by shooting simultaneous low and high ISO photographs to smooth down ghosting on moving objects, and the sensor shoots 12-bit photos with 12MP resolution by default. Slow-motion videos at FHD resolution can go up to 240fps, while video capture can go up to 8K resolution.

Today, the company tweeted the launch date of the ISOCELL sensor. The sensor will be an “ISOCELL for Everyone” the company stated, implying that it will be a mid-range sensor rather than a top-tier successor to the 108MP ISOCELL HM3 1/1.33-inch found within the Galaxy S21 Ultra or the 50MP ISOCELL GN2 1/1.12-inch housed within the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.

According to rumors, a new 50MP sensor would replace the 48MP 0.8µm sensor used in Samsung’s existing entry-level and mid-range phones, but we suggest you take this with a pinch of salt.
