OPPO is known to host its special INNO DAY event every year, where it reveals it’s newest devices and technologies that could eventually make their way to the market. And this year is no different, with many rumours and teases building up towards the virtual event held on the 14th and 15th of December. Here’s a list of each and everything expected to be revealed at the OPPO INNO DAY 2021:
OPPO Find N: Foldable Smartphone
OPPO’s first foldable smartphone, which is touted to be the result of four years of R&D and six generations of prototypes features an inward folding design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. Meanwhile, a teaser video suggests that the device will have thin bezels on its internal and external displays, along with a hole-punch cut-out for the front camera.
However, we still don’t know anything regarding the device’s technical specifications, and it looks like we will have to wait for a few days until the phone is officially unveiled at the event.
Horizontally Retractable Camera Tech
A video posted by OPPO’s Twitter handle a few days ago teased the company’s new retractable camera tech, which was shown extending horizontally from the phone’s housing. At the same time, the video also suggested that the mechanism could be waterproof and it would automatically retract the camera if and when a user drops the phone.
However, it is still uncertain as to whether this new technology will be making its way to the end-users or not, as it could very well be a concept phone giving us a glimpse at the company’s future technology, just like its phone with a rollable display that never saw the light of the day. We will get to know more about this technology at the event.
OPPO AR Glasses
Even though OPPO already revealed its first generation of AR Glasses back at INNO DAY 2020, the second generation of OPPO’s AR Glasses is speculated to be 75% lighter than its predecessor are expected to be revealed at the event.
Apart from this, the new glasses are also expected to feature a new optical solution that increases contrast by 53%, brightness uniformity by 98%, and pixels per degree (ppd) by 40% compared to the model showcased in 2020.
OPPO NPU Chip (Neural Network Processing Unit)
According to a tweet posted on OPPO’s Twitter handle, OPPO is developing its own in-house Neural Processing Unit (NPU) chip called MariSilicon X, which is speculated to be built upon TSMC’s 6nm process.
However, OPPO has still left us guessing about the actual function of this chip. We speculate that OPPO might use this chip to power AI imaging capabilities. Oppo also hinted in an image posted on its official blog post announcing the event dates for INNO DAY 2021.
