OnePlus has committed to a Google Pixel-style software update policy in order to future-proof its lineup with two years of Android OS updates and an additional year of security updates. In a community post today, OnePlus stated that the company is now working on integrating the codebases of OxygenOS and ColorOS in order to improve efficiency and standardize the software experience.
As the OEM recently revealed its new software update policy, it may now be OnePlus’ chance to redeem itself. The policy will apply to the company’s most recent OnePlus 6 phone, and even the one-year-old OnePlus 5 and 5T, as well as the nearly two-year-old OnePlus 3 and 3T.
Mid-range devices such as the OnePlus Nord and Nord CE 5G will be eligible for two Android updates as well as three years of security updates. This means that the OnePlus Nord Core Edition will continue to receive Android 12, and Android 13 updates in the future, as well as Android security patch updates until H1, 2024.
The company also disclosed its update policy for low-cost devices like the Nord N10, N100, and N200 5G. According to the brand, the Nord N series handsets are only eligible for one Android update, but the company will provide security updates for three years. This implies that the recently released OnePlus Nord N200 5G will only receive Android 12 updates.
