Carl Pei’s Nothing Reportedly Working on a Phone, Coming Early 2022

Nothing could launch its first phone in the early next year.

Carl Pei’s venture, called “Nothing,” was expected to focus only on audio-related products. But things may turn around, as the company is reportedly stepping into the smartphone industry, according to 91Mobiles. As of now, Nothing has launched just a single product – Nothing Ear(1), featuring a unique transparent design at an affordable price tag.

The news is not very surprising, as Nothing recently announced its partnership with a giant chip maker, Qualcomm. So, the first phone from Nothing could be powered by a Qualcomm chipset. As of now, there is nothing known about the phone. However, it will reportedly launch in early next year. The company is also reported to launch its power bank, Nothing Power(1), before the end of this year.

The company seems to be putting its leg in a wide range of categories. It is a fast move because the company has launched just a single product yet and has started experimenting with different categories.

Nothing was founded by Carl Pei, who was the co-founder of OnePlus. Soon after he departed from OnePlus, the company has been doing significant changes – such as ColorOS integration with OxygenOS.

On the software front, OnePlus’s new phones have more from ColorOS than OxygenOS, which seems to be from the UI level. So, what’s new Nothing smartphones will bring is currently a mystery. We can expect more details about Nothing’s first phone in the coming weeks.
