Netflix Is Turning A Wholesome Thanksgiving Grandma Incident Into A Movie

Jamal and Wanda

Netflix is a popular movie/series streaming platform. The company plans on turning an incident that took place five years ago just a couple of days before “Thanksgiving” and went viral on Twitter into a feature film. The story of Jamal Hinton and Wanda Dench’s unexpected friendship and how things turned out for them over the years will soon be on your TV screens.

On 2 December 2021, Netflix announced in a blog post, “Netflix to Develop a Feature Film Based on the True Story of the Viral Thanksgiving Text Exchange Between Strangers.” And the movie is named “The Thanksgiving Text.”

For those unaware, in 2016, Wanda Dench texted Jamal Hinton, mistaking him to be her grandson, asking him to come over for Thanksgiving dinner. They had a conversation that portrayed love and affection, and Jamal accepted the invitation and has been going to her place for six years now.

This incident went viral back in 2016 and turned both Jamal and Wanda into internet celebrities, and they have over 100k followers on social media platforms. Who hates a wholesome story that puts a smile on their face?

Jamal and Wanda said, “We are excited to share our story with the world. We hope it inspires more people to reach out and make connections that they wouldn’t ordinarily make. We are so blessed to find a genuine friendship brought together by God from a mistaken text message.” A very inspiring message to go out there, make friends, and put a smile on others’ faces.

Netflix has around 214 million subscribers worldwide (Statista). Yes, that is a lot, and people share accounts too. So, this story will reach many people and is one I, myself, am looking forward to.

Real incidents have been made into movies for a long time now, so this is not a new phenomenon for us viewers. Are you excited about The Thanksgiving Text? Let us know in the comments below, and until then, stay tuned to Oyprice and subscribe to our YouTube channel
