Though more Indians have been compelled to go online for activities such as banking, shopping, etc. by the 2020 global pandemic, many are still not sure about staying healthy on the internet. In addition, if it was exchanged like a commodity, approximately 90 percent of those surveyed would take their data privacy more seriously. These were the key findings of the global cybersecurity company McAfee’s latest study.
The McAfee survey also showed that, compared to online dating where only 42 percent felt healthy, Indians are more comfortable ordering food online (around 63 percent). For those surveyed, online assets such as banking (68 percent), financial planning (55 percent), and personal shopping (63 percent) were at the top of the list in 2020.

But the study also states that users are potentially exposed to further cyber threats with the growth of online activities. In addition, 74% of those surveyed were worried about today’s cyber threats. Nearly 78% were concerned about the theft of financial data, such as credit card information, debit card details, etc.
Around 20 percent of respondents acknowledged that they are not confident in their ability to avoid a cyberattack. Nearly 74 percent of users were also worried that they could get hacked with their personal details, such as birthday or address.
The survey also revealed that in 2020, 75% of respondents accepted or bought security solutions. Protecting personal data from cybercriminals and knowledge of rising cybercrime is the key reason behind this. The study also reported that 51 percent of children under the age of 18 undertake online activities, while 28 percent use interactive platforms for children under the age of 12.
The McAfee survey is based on an online questionnaire conducted between December 11-23, 2020, with 1,002 adults over the age of 18 in India.
