Max Payne, though a fairly old game, was much appreciated by the gaming community for its neo-noir atmosphere, groundbreaking storytelling and “bullet-time” gunplay at the time. Seeing this Remedy Entertainment, the creator of Max Payne is remaking Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games.

“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games. We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

Said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games in a Press Release

If we were to go by the press release, Remedy will be releasing both the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with Rockstar Games providing the budget plus distribution and Remedy handling the development side of things.

Besides that, it is expected that the Max Payne remake will also be developed using Remedy’s Northlight game engine, the same game engine that was used to develop much recent titles such as Control and the upcoming Alan Wake 2.

However, the press release doesn’t mention any estimated release timeline and claims that the game is “currently in the concept development stage.”. This leads us to believe that it might take some time until we see any significant development being made, which might slow down even more as Rockstar Games is already working on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6.
