MediaTek Announces Kompanio 1300T Chipset – Today, MediaTek launched the Kompanio 1300T chipset, which is aimed at ARM-powered devices. The Kompanio 1300T SoC is manufactured using a 6nm process and is the successor of the Kompanio 820, which was expected to power the Chromebooks.
Kompanio 1300T’s hardware is identical to the Dimensity 1200 chipset, and it is a significant upgrade over the Kompanio 1200 (MT8195) launched in November last year. The chipset will support 5G connectivity and is built for artificial intelligence (AI) and gaming use cases, at least to the extent that these Chromebooks allow it.
The Kompanio 1300T is built for lightweight laptops and portable tablets that may be used for online education, work from home, and other activities. The General Manager of Intelligent Multimedia Business Unit at MediaTek ‘PC Tseng’ stated:
The Kompanio 1300T has an octa-core processor with Cortex-A78 and A55 cores manufactured on TSMC’s 6nm node. The GPU has been upgraded to a nine-core Mali-G77 MC9, which is a significant improvement (the 1200 chip has a mid-range G57 MC5).
furthermore, the MediaTek Kompanio 1300T supports HDR10+ video and a blue light filter, both of which are built into the chipset. It can also support two full HD panels simultaneously, as well as 2.5K screens with refresh rates up to 120Hz. This chip also has MediaTek’s MiraVision technology, which alters the color and other elements of a device based on its surroundings.
There’s an APU that supports AI-PQ (“AI Picture Quality”) and voice commands, among other things. The chipset can capture 4K video at up to 60 frames per second and supports cameras with up to 108 MP sensors. At 4K resolution, a staggered HDR option is also available. It also has advanced voice recognition, which is useful for voice assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant.
The chipset also supports MediaTek’s HyperEngine 3.0, which is aimed to improve performance, power efficiency, when gaming on a device. The Kompanio 1300T chips are likely to appear on devices in the third quarter of 2021.
