A new Witcher game is being developed by CD Projekt Red. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the most recent game in the series, was released back in 2015 and garnered positive reviews from both audiences and critics. Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine, two expansions for The Witcher 3, were also released by CD Projekt Red. The developer has now revealed that the new game is in production after several years of speculation. It’s all part of a multi-year deal with Epic Games. The relationship with Epic allows CD Projekt Red to use Unreal Engine 5 to develop the new Witcher game.
CD Projekt Red has utilized its own REDengine technology for development since The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The Epic Games alliance will aid with Unreal Engine 5-based development and licensing. CD Projekt Red and Epic Games will collaborate to make Unreal Engine 5 more suitable for open-world games. The newly announced Witcher game will kick off a new chapter in the series. Although, CD Projekt Red hasn’t revealed any detailed information about the game yet.
“A much stronger focus on technology is one of the main parts of our internal RED 2.0 Transformation, and our collaboration with Epic Games is built on this premise. We didn’t regard this as a standard licensing agreement from the start; instead, we and Epic see this as long-term, fruitful tech cooperation. It’s critical for CD PROJEKT RED to decide on the technical direction of our next game as soon as possible because, in the past, we’ve spent a lot of time and resources evolving and adapting the REDengine with each new game launch.” According to Paweł Zawodny, CTO, CD Projekt Red .
Paweł Zawodny further said that, “This collaboration is particularly exciting because it will improve development predictability and efficiency while also providing us with cutting-edge game development tools. I’m looking forward to the fantastic games we’ll make using Unreal Engine 5. REDengine will continue to power Cyberpunk 2077, according to CD Projekt Red, and it is being used in the creation of the upcoming addition.
