After the iPhone 12 series, the Cupertino giant is said to have initiated working on the successor — iPhone 13. Now, on the show of the ‘Pro’ models, a new study sheds some light. iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will have a 120Hz OLED display, according to an investigation from ETNews, which means they will have the ProMotion display we saw on the iPad Pro 2020 models. Although the iPhone 13 Pro Max and 13 mini displays are said to be supplied by Samsung, LG is said to be the primary supplier for the standard iPhone 13 and 13 Pro. The new report comes in reference to an early report, that suggests that all the models would have high refresh rates.

Reportedly, the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 will have LPTS (LTPS is Low-Temperature Polysilicon), while the LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) display with a refresh rate of 120Hz is anticipated for the Pro models. In order to lower the power consumption caused by the 120Hz displays, Apple is said to implement the LTPO and LTPO-TFT. The study also suggests the size of the iPhone 13 series display, which remains unchanged from the previous one.

  • iPhone 13 mini — 5.4-inch LTPS 60Hz display
  • iPhone 13 — 6.1-inch LTPS 60Hz display
  • iPhone 13 Pro — 6.1-inch LTPO 120Hz display
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max — 6.7-inch LTPO 120Hz display

In addition, according to the content on the device, the LTPO technology will also allow Apple to vary the refresh rate as low as 1Hz, thus ensuring more time on the screen. The same technology is used by Apple on the 5 and 6 Watch Series. In addition, the report adds that the display of LTPO-TFT will help SCM (supply-chain management) expand. Part modifications such as Driver-IC, RF-PCB, OLED emitters, and others would have to be done by Apple. Although there is no specific timeframe for the launch of the iPhone 13, unless there are no delays like this year, the unveiling should be held in September 2021.
