Instagram has started informing its users that swipe-up links will be replaced by stickers from 30 August onwards. These stickers will have links embedded in them. This was reported by Jane Manchun Wong, who is well-known to share new features about social media websites. Sam Sheffer, who’s a Youtuber, also replied to this tweet with the notification he received from Instagram.
To attach links to your story you either have to have 10 thousand followers or be verified. Swipe-up links were one of the differentiating factors between standard Instagram users and high-profile accounts of influencers and celebrities. It seems like this won’t be the case any further. Instagram says stickers with links will be available to everyone.
Vishal Shah, Instagram’s head of product told The Verge, that the sticker link is the goal and not only for verified users but for everyone. To quote him, “That is the sort of future system we would like to get to and that’s what we hope to roll out if we’re able to make this work.” Instagram released a beta in late June for iOS users who could use this feature. It was then limited only to verified users or users with at least 10k followers.
Now that it has been a couple of months since the beta release and Instagram has received a positive response with the sticker link format it will soon release the public build. Finally, everyone will be able to add links to their stories.
