It is almost the end of the year and we have a quick recap of India’s most-watched movies and series on Netflix 2020. All thanks to COVID and Netflix StreamFest, Indian subscribers have the highest viewership of films compared to any other country. As per the company, 80% of the subscribers in India tend to watch at least one film per week. Looking at the instantaneous growth of the subscribers in India, viewership has also grown across the board as well. Not to ignore the sudden leap of 370% year-by-year growth of K-dramas, followed by romantic stories and nonfictional series with a 250% increase. Engagement on documentaries and kid’s shows doubled as well.
Following are the winners of some of the selective categories of series and movies on Netflix India 2020.
Most popular Drama movie: Gunjan saxena: The Kargil girl
The movie starring Janhvi Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi, Vineet Kumar Singh, Ayesha Raza & Manav Vij, is a highly inspiring story of an Indian Air Force and former helicopter pilot, flight lieutenant Gunjan Saxena. The movie is a true story, showcasing the complete journey of an ordinary girl’s way to rule the skies.
Most popular comedy movie: Ludo
Anurag Basu’s multi-narrative storytelling in Ludo starring Abhishek A Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Pearle Maaney, Inayat Verma, Asha Negi, and Shalini Vats, discusses ‘sin and virtue’ and ‘second chances’. From the rematerialized sex tape to a rogue money chest, this one revolves around four extensively different stories overlapping at the whims of fate, chance, and one eccentric criminal.
Most popular thriller movie: Raat Akeli Hai
The movie is an extreme mystery thriller starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Shweta Tripathi, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Nishant Dahiya, Ila Arun, Swanand Kirkire, and Aditya Srivastava. It runs around an eccentric cop’s investigation, complicated by the victims’ reticent family. Raat Akeli hai has that all, including an engrossing plot, slick storyline, fantastic cast, and great music to add up.
Most popular action movies: Extraction, Malang, and The old guard.

(ii) Malang: Mohit Suri’s multi-starrer love story Malang, unbridling the CRAZINESS starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Disha Patani, Anil Kapoor, and Kunal Kemmu, is a thriller in a true sense.
(iii) The old guard: Charlize Theron leads a group of mercenaries with the ability to heal themselves, They must fight in order to shield themselves.
Most popular romantic movies: Love Aaj Kal 2 and Ginny Weds Sunny
(i) Love Aaj Kal 2: Imtiaz Ali directed Love Aaj Kal 2 starrer Kartik Aaryan, Sara Ali Khan and Randip Huda tackles the prioritizing career or love dilemma, and the ever-changing dynamic of being in and finding love.
(ii) Ginny Weds Sunny: A bachelor eager to marry but is constantly rejected by women, wishes to wed his former crush by accepting help from none other than the girl’s mother.
Most popular anime movie: Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back-Evolution
The legendary Pokémon Mewtwo was deliberated to use as a weapon for destruction. In a scientific experiment, which leads to creating a clone of Mewtwo in order to destroy the world. Knowing that Ash and his friends go on to thwart Mewtwo’s wicked plans.
Most popular romantic series: Mismatched
The series revolves around two people who are supposedly a mismatch romantically. Dimple Ahuja, played by Prajakta Koli is kind of a Tech Wizard and Rishi Shekhavat, played by Rohit Saraf is in love with her. Combined together, they go on to build an app while also handling their bullies, friends and an arrogant professor.

(i) Blood Of Zeus: Created by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides, this anime series goes on to give a faithful take on Greek mythology. Heron, a young man who is circumvented from his village for being unlawful, discovers himself to be the actual son of the God Zeus.
(ii) One Punch Man Season 2: It is a Japanese superhero franchise created by the artist ONE. The story tells about a superhero called Saitama, who can effortlessly defeat anyone with a single punch. He goes on to find a worthy enemy growing bored of defeating everyone due to his overwhelming strength.
Most popular K-dramas: The King: Eternal Monarch, Kingdom Season 2, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, and Start-up
(i) The King: Eternal Monarch: The Republic of Korea, a parallel world whose pathway was discovered by the king of the kingdom of South Korea. His nemesis, later on, makes him discover the transfer of people from one world to another, making them kill their look-alikes. The drama stars Lee Min-Ho, Lee Jung-Jin, and Kim Go-Eun.
(ii) It’s Okay to Not Be Okay: The drama starring Kim Soo-hyun as Moon Gang-tae and Seo Yea-ji as Ko Moon-young, tell us about a love story between a caretaker at a psychiatric ward, who is too busy for love, and a successful author, who doesn’t know what love is.
(iii) Start-up: The drama revolves around a love triangle among a woman dreaming to be a successful entrepreneur like Steve Jobs, his secret first love, and another pretending to be her first love.
On Netflix’s daily top 10 lists, Mighty Little Bheem season 3 was featured in more countries than any other title. Jamtara, a web-series about a phishing scam, spent the highest amount of “Top 10” for any Indian title. Dark, a German science-fiction series spent 95 days on “Top 10” in India whereas the Spanish series Money Heist featured a whopping 170 days!
