“The 5G network will start in August next year, and the PM may publicly launch it on August 15,” a government official in the know told BusinessLine.

“The major surprise of the launch will be that you will find a lot of Indian technology – be it in hardware or software – in it. As you are aware, India is very strong in software, so many technologies will be dependent on our local software companies. They will be the backbone.

Reliance Jio has built its own trail equipment in Mumbai. It is also allegedly in talks with other 5G equipment manufacturers like Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung to start testing in additional locations. Airtel, on the other side, used Ericsson network gear to test the network in Gurgaon.

Local makers and providers of these technologies are also expected to provide global assistance, according to the government. So, DoT ( Department of Telecommunications) has ordered not to use any equipment from Chinese manufacturers like ZTE or Huawei.
