Users should follow these measures to search the containment areas, which will be marked in a grey shade on Google Maps:

  • Google Maps should be updated.
  • On the top right of the app, tap the layers button.
  • COVID-19 information can be found by selecting it from the drop-down menu.
  • If required, zoom in or out.

On Thursday, Google added a feature to Google Maps that allows users to see containment areas. As of now, the feature is only available in Mumbai, but it will soon be available in other Indian cities. A shaded grey region will display the delineated areas. Google is collaborating with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai’s central municipal corporation, to gather data and update Google Maps.

In September, Google released the COVID-19 data layer, which allows users to view state-level COVID-19 statistics. This new layer overlays the number of new COVID-19 cases (a 7-day average) indicated per 100,000 users and the trend in the number of cases in that state when a user zooms out to see an entire state. This feature will be available in many languages and will cover all Indian states.

Google stated that it is partnering with a number of federal and state government agencies to make accurate details available to its customers through all Google items. In a statement, Google said, “We look forward to partnering with more cities and expanding the containment zones functionality for them.”
