The Apple AirPods and AirPods Pro operate with Android devices, despite Apple’s fondness for its walled garden. Why? Because Bluetooth is a universal standard that can be found on millions of devices, including Android smartphones.
While Apple’s iPhones and other devices have a few tricks up their sleeves, standards like Bluetooth and many of its codecs function on Android. AirPods are one of the few Apple products that may be used alongside an Android phone. Here’s how to get them to work with your Android phone.
- Open the AirPods case.
- Press and hold the button to set the AirPods on pairing mode.
- Go to the Bluetooth Settings on your Android device.
- Search the AirPods on the list and click on Pair.
After you’ve paired your AirPods to your Android device using the instructions above, you may use them like any other TWS earbuds or Bluetooth headphones. This means you won’t have to go through the same steps every time you want to use the AirPods to listen to music. The AirPods will now appear in the list of paired devices on your smartphone.

However, because they’re connected to a non-iOS smartphone, you’ll miss some features like automatic stopping when you remove an AirPod from your ear. It will also be impossible to configure the double-tap feature. It will instead serve as a play/pause button.
