How to Spot Spam Texts
There are some tell-tale signs that a text message isn’t genuine. First, check to see if the company’s name is mentioned in the text. Typically, brands will make it clear that a text is from them.
Next, check out the link. The link should give you an idea of where you’re going. Check to see if the web site’s name is in the link. If so, it’s most likely legitimate. Don’t click if the email contains a shortened link.
Third, scammers use urgency to persuade you to act without thinking. Taking you by surprise makes it easier for them to persuade you to click a link or provide information.
Misspellings, poor grammar, slang, emojis, and typos are also red flags. If the text does not appear professional, it is most likely not from a brand or company you trust.
How to Block Spam Texts on Android?
Follow these steps to block spam messages on an Android device:
- Open the text that you want to block.
- In the upper right corner of the screen, tap the three-dot menu.
- Tap “Details.”
- Tap on “Block Contact.”

How to Block Spam Texts on iPhone?
Follow these steps to block spam messages on an iOS device:
- Open the text.
- Tap the arrow next to the phone number at the top of the screen.
- Select the grey “Info” button.
- Tap the blue “Info” button.
- Scroll to the bottom and select “Block this Caller.”
How to Filter Text Messages?
This option is even simpler. Choose Messages from the phone’s Settings, then turn on the “Filter Unknown Senders” option. Any message received from a number that is not in your contacts will now be routed to a folder that you can choose to view — or not. The warning here is that you may miss messages from actual people who haven’t been added to your contacts.
