According to reports, Google Pixel foldable phone will be using an ultra-thin glass cover for the inside display.

The Pixel foldable device features a large display on the inside, and folds inwards, just like the Samsung Galaxy Fold series.

A report suggests that Google will be using ultra-thin glass (UTG) which will be manufactured by Samsung Display. Recently, Google also collaborated with Samsung and announced that Samsung’s Tizen Watch OS will be merged with its wearOS.

Samsung Display currently uses its USG cover only on two devices, the Galaxy Z Fold Flip and the Fold 2. We can also expect the UTG on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3. Now it is reported that Samsung Display will be supplying its UTG cover to other smartphone manufacturers as well. What this means is that we can see some more companies using Samsung Display’s USG. The South Korean giant will be supplying UTG to Google for its upcoming Pixel foldable phone.

What is Samsung’s UTG Cover?

The Ultra-Thin Glass cover(UTG) is a thin glass sheet that is applied to the internal screen of the foldable devices from Samsung. What makes it ideal for a foldable phone is its flexibility and durability.

Earlier, Samsung used plastic film for the foldable screens but now they have switched to glass which offers premium feeling and good protection. Other smartphone companies which have rolled out foldable devices are still using plastic film on their devices. But now we could see more and more companies opting for Samsung Display’s UTG cover as the company has decided to supply its UTG to other smartphone manufacturers.

As of now, we don’t have any information about Google Pixel Foldable phone. But we are really excited about Google’s upcoming foldable device. Until then, stay tuned!
