According to About Chromebooks, recent Chrome OS updates have broken the camera on some Chromebooks, but Google confirmed Thursday that it has published a workaround. Several bug complaints discovered by About Chromebooks prior to the release of the fix reported varying concerns; one stated that the camera just does not work, while another stated that the camera is still unable to maintain focus.
Users reportedly had issues with a number of different updates, at least one of which dated back to Chrome 97. According to About Chromebooks, there have been some reports of camera difficulties with the following devices:
- Acer Chromebook 14
- HP Chromebook x2 11
- Lenovo Duet 5 Chromebook 5
- Lenovo 10e Chromebook
- Google Pixelbook Go
- Acer Chromebook Spin 13
A user with the “Verified Googler” tag indicated Tuesday in a Reddit thread concerning recent camera troubles with the Duet 5, that the firm is working on a remedy. “Our team estimates that the repair will be available later this week with a software update and is unrelated to your device,” stated the individual, who identified themselves as “Alisha.” “Once the patch has been sent out, we will provide an update on this thread.” further mentioned.
