The Wear OS platform is about to experience major changes. At its I/O developer conference, Google confirmed that it is working with Samsung on the next version of Wear OS, as well as the release of a YouTube Music app for the platform.
The Google Play Music app was shut down in September in favor of YouTube Music, but Wear OS users had lost access to it on their smartphones weeks before that.
Months before the closure, Google offered a method for users to move their tracks from the old app to the new one. Despite the fact that Play Music had been out for years, it was killed off before its replacement was ready for the masses.
The Wear OS users have had to wait nearly eight months for this news, and the software doesn’t even have a firm release date yet. Google has only stated that it will be released later this year. Since October 2020, when Play Music was shut down, Apple Watch users have had access to a YouTube Music app.
People will be able to use the features of YouTube Music on their smartwatches once the service is released for Wear OS. One of them is the ability to download music to their computers and listen to it without the need for a WiFi or data connection.
