All the Games That Will Be Getting Their Own Movies & TV Series

Games are beginning to become more and more mainstream, with games development studios now being compared to major film studios with massive budgets, thanks to games having immersive storytelling and plotlines.

Seeing the success of many of these games, many game development studios have started collaborating with various filmmakers to turn their games into Movies and TV shows. We have seen with ‘The Witcher’ Series on Netflix, which is based on the Witcher game series developed by CD Projekt Red. ‘Arcane’ series on Netflix based on the popular game ‘League of legends.’

And this trend doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon, with many new movies and TV shows based on games under the works expected to be released in the near future, so here’s a list of all the games that will be getting their own movies and TV shows in 2022 –

The Last of Us Series

The Last of Us television series that is set to air on HBO is an adaptation of the 2013 video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog as a PlayStation 3 & 4 Exclusive. The series will follow Joel (Pedro Pascal), a smuggler tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the post-apocalyptic United States.

The first season will consist of ten episodes written by Craig Mazin, the producer of Chernobyl Mini-Series, and Neil Druckmann, and will be a joint production by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Naughty Dog, The Mighty Mint, and Word Games.

The series, said to be the largest television production in Canadian history, began its production in Calgary, Alberta, in July 2021 and has since wrapped up the filming this month is speculated to be released somewhere in the middle of 2022.

Cyberpunk 2077 Series

CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS, a new original anime series set in the same universe as Cyberpunk 2077. It will be a 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in the technology and body modification-obsessed dystopian city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edge runner, a mercenary outlaw also known as cyberpunk.

The series, which is set to be released sometime in 2022, will be produced by an acclaimed Japan-based animation company, Studio Trigger, in collaboration with CD Projekt Red and will be released on Netflix.

Uncharted Movie

Uncharted

The Uncharted movie is based on the action-adventure game series of the same name; created by Amy Hennig, developed by Naughty Dog, and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation consoles.

The movie is expected to serve as an origin story and prequel to the game and stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor, Victor Sullivan, along with Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas playing various supporting roles.

Uncharted is scheduled to be theatrically released by Sony Pictures Releasing in the United Kingdom on February 11, 2022, and then in the United States on February 18 and so on.

Super-Mario Movie

The yet-to-be-named untitled Mario film, set to be released in December 2022, will be produced by Illumination. The same company behind animation movies such as Despicable Me and Minions, in association with Nintendo, and distributed by Universal Pictures.

This movie will be the third feature film adaptation of Nintendo’s Mario video game series, following the 1986 Japanese-only anime film Super Mario Bros: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! and the 1993 live-action film Super Mario Bros

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing the film. It features an ensemble of voice actors, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Browser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, and many more.
