Foldable smartphone are nothing new for Huawei as we have seen with the company’s Mate X2 which was launch at the same time as Samsung launched its most popular foldable-Galaxy Fold Z in 2019. While unlike Samsung which launched its first clamshell foldable the Galxy Z Flip in 2020, Huawei didn’t launch any. However, this finally seem to be changing soon as according to a post on the company’s official Weibo account Huawei is set to announce a new clamshell foldable phone later this month called the Huawei P50 Pocket.
While the original teaser images posted by Huawei gave us a look at the corners of a silver P50 Pocket. A new photoshoot for Harper’s Bazaar China featuring a Chinese actress Guan Xiaotong, a supposed sponsor of the brand is shown extensively using the Huawei P50 Pocket, giving us a closer look at the upcoming foldable.
The version seen in the photoshoot seems to have a golden machined metal finish. The images also reveal the new rear camera array along with a small circular exterior display that can be used as a viewfinder for the camera, similar to the small outer display found on Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Moto Razr.
Although we still don’t know any technical specifications of Huawei’s upcoming P50 Pocket, we expect the device to ship with at least a Snapdragon 888 along with more RAM, as the normal (non-folding) Huawei P50 Pro already features a 6.5-inch 90Hz OLED display, a Snapdragon 888 chipset, 8GB RAM, 128 or 256GB storage, four rear cameras, a 4,100mAh battery, 66W fast wired charging, and an IP68 rating.
