Just last week, MediaTek unveiled the Dimensity 9000 SoC. The company claims that it is their full-blown flagship chipset and the leaked benchmarks substantiate these claims. And as expected, the SoC will be almost double the price of Dimensity 1200 and yet cheaper than Qualcomm’s, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (alleged name of Qualcomm’s flagship SoC).
You can find the Dimensity 1200 in the sub Rs 30,000/ USD 500 smartphones. It is considered on par with the Snapdragon 778G but was nowhere close to Snapdragon 888 or Snapdragon 888+. And that is expected out of an SoC designed to compete in that price category.
Now that the Dimensity 9000 runs neck and neck with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, it is still cheaper. Digital Chat Station, a well-known leakster, claims that the Dimensity 9000 is cheaper than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The leakster also claims that the Dimensity 9000 is double the price of Dimensity 1200. And it does make sense. In the end, consumers need a powerful chipset that is also power efficient. When both these go hand in hand, it makes the overall experience of the device unforgettable.
Phones with these chipsets will start shipping in Q1 of 2022; at least, that is the time frame we are expecting devices to launch with these SoCs. There are chances it might get delayed, but at least by Q2 of 2022, we will have smartphones with Snapgradgon 8 Gen 1 and Mediatek Dimensity 9000.
Mediatek is well known for providing SoCs at lower prices than Qualcomm. However, various other factors affect the cost of a phone. Also, it’s the company that decides how competitively they want to price a device.
We can also see the emphasis on the Dimensity 7000 SoC, which was also leaked last week.
