In the ongoing space race, space giant companies like Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin or Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s SpaceX are competing to reach various milestones in space research. The goals of all these organizations are exotic, and blue Origin just captured a remarkable victory. Blue Origin successfully sent and brought back Star Trek actor William Shatner and his crew to the edge of space.
The crew took off from Blue Origin’s launch facility in Van Horn, Texas at 7:20 PM ET, climbed to roughly 66 miles up, and then safely landed back on Earth. Post this trip, Shatner became the oldest man in space; he is currently 90 years old. After their land, Shatner had some inspirational words to say to the world as well as Jeff Bezos:
“What you have given me is the most profound experience. I’m so filled with emotion about what just happened. I just, it’s extraordinary, extraordinary. I hope I never recover from this.”

Although the flight lasted just 10 minutes, this was its second successful crewed mission on their New Shepard rocket. The first was when Jeff himself went on it along with Mark, a Dutch teenager, and legendary aviator Wally Funk. This iterating success has made the New Shepard Blue Origin’s primary and most trusted rocket.
Blue Origin has been getting success repeatedly over the last few months, and it will be exciting to see what they can do moving forward!
