Black Shark 5, Red Magic 6 Series Tipped to Feature Snapdragon 898 SoC, 100W Fast Charging, and More

Smartphone manufacturers have reportedly started developing their phones powered by the upcoming Qualcomm flagship chip, Snapdragon 898 SoC. Xiaomi 12 could be the first phone to launch with the new chip next month. Now it seems, gaming-focused smartphone companies, Red Magic and Black Shark, are also inline to bring its Snapdragon 898-SoC powered phones.

Trustworthy Chinese Tipster Digital Chat Station claims that the Red Magic 7 series and Black Shark 5 series will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 chipset. The Red Magic 7 has even passed through the MIIT certification, hinting that the device is indeed gearing up for launch. It has been spotted on the certification site with the model number NX679J.

The tipster also claims that the Red Magic 7 series and Black Shark 5 series are equipped with a powerful physical cooling system and support 100W fast charging. Without revealing the battery capacities, he claims that the phones have a large capacity battery.

While Qualcomm is silent about its next flagship SoC (reportedly called Snapdragon 898 SoC), recent leaks have revealed many details about the SoC. The chip is said to offer performance improvements of up to 20% over its predecessor. The Geekbench 5 scores are 1200 and 3900 points for the single-core and multi-core tests. It is about 15% higher than Snapdragon 888.

Recently, a leaked image of a device running Snapdragon 898 SoC was shared by the Digital Chat Station (via Sparrowsnews). It revealed that the chip has one Cortex-X2 prime core clocked at 3.0 GHz, three Cortex-A710 mid-cores clocked at 2.5 GHz, and four 1.79 GHz Cortex-A510 power-efficient cores. It has Adreno 730 GPU for all graphics-related work.
