Netflix has steadily expanded its library of Indian original series and films over the years. When it comes to local content, it is aggressively competing with other international shows. That’s because video consumption in India has exploded to unprecedented levels.

1. Sacred Games

Sacred Games is a web television thriller series in India based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 novel of the same name. The plot starts with Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) is a troubled Mumbai cop who receives a phone call from gangster Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) telling him he has 25 days to save the city; the series follows the events that unfold.

Gaitonde’s story continues in flashbacks in season two, while Sartaj searches for answers. Sartaj finds an ashram where his father used to live and learns about their apocalyptic ambitions to create a world free of war. Flashbacks reveal Gaitonde’s meeting with Khanna Guruji, how he came to be a member of the ashram and his activities with them.

2. Delhi Crime

Richie Mehta wrote and directed the Indian crime drama series Delhi Crime, which is currently streaming on Netflix. The story is based on a gang rape case that occurred in the Munirka neighborhood of South Delhi in 2012. The series picks up after a gang rape, with Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vartika Chaturvedi charged with tracking down the perpetrators of the assaults and death of the female victim.

Imtiaz Ali and Divya Johry produced and wrote She is an Indian crime drama streaming television series. She surrounds the story of a female Indian police constable who is assigned to the Anti-Narcotics Group in order to combat a major drug lord. As part of the mission, Aaditi Pohankar (Bhumika) dresses up and goes for a walk through Mumbai’s back alleys. The show portrays the notion that a woman’s body can be used effectively to manipulate her environment.

4. Taj Mahal 1989

Pushpendra Nath Misra directed and wrote Taj Mahal 1989, an Indian comedy-drama romance web television series.

1989, Lucknow. Finding love in the pre-Internet era was difficult, but maintaining it was much more difficult. The lives of a Lucknow University professor couple, their students, a long-lost friend, and his lover, and a schoolgirl in love with an older boy are all intertwined in Taj Mahal 1989. The series examines the various shades of love throughout history as it mutates and matures through the everyday struggles and triumphs of the characters.

5. Jamtara

Jamtara Ayega-sabka Number Ayega is an Indian crime drama series written by Trishant Srivastava and directed by Soumendra Padhi that is currently streaming on Netflix.

The plot revolves around a group of small-town young guns who run a profitable phishing operation, but they run into a crooked politician who wants a piece of the action. Finally, there’s a cop who tries to take on all of them.

6. Selection Day

Selection Day is an Indian sports drama television series that premiered on Netflix in 2016. It is based on Aravind Adiga’s 2016 novel of the same name.

Radha and Manjunath are two brothers who have been groomed to be the next great pair of cricket batsmen by their father. After tinkering with the bowling attacks of their local village teams, their father decides it’s time for them to relocate to Mumbai in the hopes of being selected for domestic leagues during the upcoming election season.

7. Little Things

Last but not least, we have Little Things duh! Little Things is an Indian romantic comedy web series produced by Dhruv Sehgal, who also starred alongside Mithila Palkar in the lead role.

The story follows Kavya Kulkarni (Palkar) and Dhruv Vats (Sehgal), a Mumbai-based couple who live together. As the series progresses, the couple’s daily lives are discussed through conversation. The language used is English, with a few Hindi sentences thrown in for good measure (used mostly in slang).
