The Asus Zenfone 8 series was scheduled to launch in India earlier this week, but it didn’t because of the COVID-19 crisis. It’s uncertain when the Zenfone 8 and 8 Flip will be released in India, but the vanilla 8 may be renamed as the Asus Zenfone 8z. The explanation for this is that the “ASUS 8Z” has appeared in the list of Google Play-approved devices for the Zenfone 8 Indian version with model code I006D. The 8 Flip, on the other hand, isn’t mentioned as an 8z Flip, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Asus did launch it in India as an 8z Flip.

Asus is yet to announce what its new flagships will be named in India. However, Asus released the Zenfone 6 as the Zenfone 6z in India in 2019 in response to a court ruling prohibiting the Taiwanese phone maker from using the “Zenfone” branding in the world, so we might see Asus remove the Zenfone moniker from its smartphones in India once more.
