Apple is preparing to launch a new HiFi Apple Music tier in the “coming weeks,” according to Hits Double Daily, citing sources in the music industry. This will coincide with the release of the rumoured third-generation AirPods.
The new tier, which will offer high-fidelity music streaming, will cost the same $9.99 monthly subscription as the current individual tier, according to the report. Spotify, Apple Music’s main rival, announced that users will be able to “upgrade their sound quality to Spotify HiFi and listen to their favourite songs the way artists intended” starting in 2021.
According to the report, Apple will announce the new Apple Musc tier and launch the third-generation AirPods in the “coming weeks.” Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference is set to take place on June 7, and while no hardware was announced at the event last year, hardware announcements are possible at this year’s software-focused event.
The third-generation AirPods are expected to have a design similar to that of the AirPods Pro, but without some of the “Pro” features like Active Noise Cancelation. If the rumour is true, the new AirPods will be released in the wake of a report claiming that Apple is reducing AirPods production due to declining sales.
