It is that time of the year again where we see all major brands launch their new operating system (OS). Apple recently launched iOS 15, and now Android has officially launched Android 12. The OS was launched at their Pixel 6 launch event and has been promising. This year, there is no name for their operating system, which is a bit sad to see. Let’s take a look at what is new and our thoughts about it!

The main change in Android 12 is all about the design, which we quite like. The elements and features have stayed the same, but the UI and design have been massively improved. Material You is in full effect and looks really good, clean, and most importantly, personal. The update was about 1.69GB in size on Pixel devices, and that is a relatively minor update even for weaker devices.

The new update is evident as soon as you look at the lock screen. Material You is a lot more colorful, and it compliments the feel of your wallpaper by offering a variety of accent options. Everything has been made thicker and curvier, with mostly everything having rounded corners. This is in contrast to previous iterations, and we think this one looks the best out of all. The design language this time around looks a lot more refined and well built.

This time, the main font is Google Sans instead of the classic Roboto we have had for a decade. The difference is subtle, and whether you like it or not comes down to personal preference. Android 12 also gives notifications and the quick settings panel a complete redesign, making it more accessible and easy to use.

Some minor new privacy features help you see which app is accessing your data, location, etc.

It will be interesting to see what makes it to the UI of other smartphones like OnePlus, Samsung, etc. But Android 12 is a new chapter in Android’s history, and we think it has started off really well!
