5G Cellular Network in India

5G in India

5G means the Fifth Generation cellular network technology which delivers speed up to 100 gigabytes per second (100GB/s). 5G has a shorter wavelength than 4G which means 5G requires more cell towers to cover a particular area or range. 5G will enable the full potential of the Internet Of Things(IoT) which requires high-speed connectivity for seamless on-demand services to smart automated homes and smart-cars, Enhanced mobile broadband, and Ultra-reliable low latency communications. 5G will not only meet the evolving requirements of 5G smartphone connectivities but also transform IT businesses to a great technological extent.

Various cellular regulators around the world are performing 5G tests and developing 5G spectrum plans. 5G speed depends on millimeter-wave(mm-wave) bands above 24Ghz, therefor only a few have passed the 5G first assessment and test in which China and Japan are leading the charts.

5G’s status in India

  • Reliance Jio has partnered with multiple network vendors for early 5G commercialization in India.
  • Bharti Airtel and Huawei have successfully conducted India’s first 5G network trails in Manesar, Gurugram.
  • Vodafone idea is proposing 5G trails with multiple vendors, including Huawei and Ericsson.
  • India is planning to boycott Chinese-network regulators for 5G trails making one of the factors for the slow immersion of 5G networks in India.
  • Many network providers have started laying fibre-optics cable which will also help in optimizing 5G networks for a true 5G experience.
  • 5G bands were expected to launch by the end of the year 2020, but due to COVID-19 and many other certain factors, 5G network is expected to be working by the end of the year 2021.
