Xiaomi’s Upcoming Flagships will Receive 3 System and 4 Years of Security Updates

Xiaomi Software Updates

Xiaomi is the brand that disrupted the smartphone market with its budget phone offerings with great specifications at comparatively lower prices than its competition. In an announcement made yesterday, Xiaomi is promising three years of software updates and four years of security updates to its upcoming Xiaomi 11T flagship series of smartphones.

Even while providing bang for the buck smartphones, Xiaomi is infamous for the late software upgrades. It has been reported several times on multiple devices that these updates come with a lot of bugs. Fortunately, Xiaomi is heading in the right direction by making a promise of providing these software upgrades and security patches at least for its upcoming flagship devices.

Albert Shan, Head of Product & Technology, Xiaomi International, says, “Xiaomi is committed to providing users with industry-leading hardware and lasting performance. In continuation of this commitment to users, Xiaomi is further extending the life cycle of Xiaomi’s smartphones by ensuring three generations of Android operating system updates. This way, users can choose to use their current devices for a longer period, and enjoy the latest features along with it. At the same time, we will also provide users with security updates that ensure their devices operate securely for a longer period of time.”

There are various other factors responsible for pushing updates in all markets, that Xiaomi has specified in case it fails to deliver on this promise in the form of a disclaimer reading, “The availability of Android operating system upgrades and features may vary from device to device and from market to market. The availability of the update will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the complexity of the update, local regulations, market, and other factors.”

So what do you think, will Xiaomi deliver on its promise? Only time will tell I suppose.
